A Yukon Breakfast with the New Minister of Seniors February 20, 2025 Share Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on LinkedIn Email Celeste Sundquist-Bendall & Joanne Thompson The Honourable Joanne Thompson, MP St. John’s East, is our new Minister of Seniors. Born and raised in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Minister Thompson is committed to advancing social justice, creating opportunities for entrepreneurs, and supporting communities. On February 12, 2025, Ms. Thompson spent a pleasant twenty four hours in the Yukon, visiting our capital city, Whitehorse. She began her day with a breakfast Meet and Greet with Members of the Liberal EDA Board and local supporters. We had a nice turnout, and it was a great opportunity to share what is important to seniors in our riding – directly with the Minister. The remainder of the day was spent around the city with Yukon MP Brendan Hanley. They visited the Golden Age Society, and discussed the great work that they are able to do with the help of the New Horizons for Seniors program. Then they played shuffleboard at Elder Active with Yukon seniors. They also visited the Sew and Tell Program at the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre, also a recipient of the New Horizons for Seniors program. The Minister met with her territorial counterpart, Minister Tracy-Anne McPhee, visited with small businesses in the downtown core, did a radio show with CBC Yukon, and met with Mayor of Whitehorse Kirk Cameron. A busy day! We were very lucky to have her in the Yukon – on one of her very first tours! SLC Yukon Chair Celeste Sundquist-Bendall
