Maurice Budgell: A Tribute March 24, 2022 Share Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on LinkedIn Email It is with great sadness that we advise of the loss of our very own Maurice Budgell, who passed at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador on Thursday, March 17, 2022. Maurice recently became active in the federal Senior Liberals’ Commission in Newfoundland and Labrador. However, he was a long time Liberal and could be heard on the VOCM (Voice Of the Common Man) Open Line program speaking on numerous topics throughout the years. As proud as he was to be a part of this great Liberal family, his love for our province and especially his hometown of King’s Point and its surrounding region was strong. He will be well remembered as an advocate for all. It was important to Maurice that he worked hard every day advocating for the economic betterment of all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, especially those less fortunate. More recently, Maurice seized every opportunity to gain support for a fixed link to Labrador. He would speak on Open Line and our Annual General Meetings with much passion and excitement! During our Opposition years, Maurice Budgell always stepped up to the plate to ensure we had a full slate each general election; even in our leanest years! He always ensured the Liberal banner was in every district! In 2002, he was presented the J. Aidan Hennebury volunteerism award for his contributions and dedication to the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and dear friends at this most difficult time. Thomas Kendell, SLC Chair, Newfoundland & Labrador
