The Board and members of the Senior Liberals’ Commission (SLC) offer our congratulations and welcome to Kamal Khera. Our Commission was very pleased in 2018, when the Liberal Government created a cabinet office dedicated to Canadian seniors and look forward to seeing Ms. Khera continue this work. The Hon. Kamal Khera was first elected as MP for Brampton West in 2015 and has served in many roles in our government over the past several years. You can learn more about Kamal’s current and past roles in the Federal Government here. Kamal is one of the youngest women ever elected to Parliament. A registered nurse, community volunteer, and political activist, she is passionate about improving the lives of those around her. Prior to entering politics, she worked as a registered nurse in the oncology unit at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto. During the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, she went back to her roots as a registered nurse to volunteer at a hard-hit long-term care facility in her hometown of Brampton. She continued to help on the front lines throughout the pandemic, including by administering vaccines in her community. SLC was formed in 2003 to advocate for Seniors and continues to shape these important priorities for our Liberal movement. We have long focused on ensuring older Canadians have more of the support they need to live independently, in their homes and communities. And of course, we’ll continue working to highlight the need to provide more support to low-income seniors.
