SLC – British Columbia

Welcome

Thank you for visiting the website of the British Columbia Section of the Senior Liberals’ Commission. My name is Claire Vermette and I would like to acknowledge that all of our efforts on behalf of Senior Registered Liberals and older Canadians take place on the traditional lands and unceded territory of the Coast Salish; Kwikwetlem, Musqueam, Squamish, Sto:lo Tsleil-Waututh First Nations.

It is my pleasure as President to welcome you and extend an invitation to all registered Liberals aged 60 and over to become active members of the Senior Liberals’ Commission BC Section.

We are pleased to welcome many new members and people interested in what the Senior Liberals’ Commission does for those Canadians aged 60 years and up. If you are a registered Liberal and over 60 then – Welcome! – you are already a member of the Senior Liberals Commission.

Now there is something you might not be aware of: you must renew your membership in the Liberal Party of Canada every three years. If you are at all unsure about your registration status, it’s easy to fix, at no cost. Just sign up again at https://liberal.ca/register/

But wait! Have you grown exasperated with too many emails and have blocked LPC emails? This would be too bad, really, as you will miss out on invitations to fascinating webinars and talks by elected officials on topics that intrigue and concern many older Canadians, and inform with great depth of knowledge. Re-open your mailbox to communications from the Liberal Party of Canada, by emailing assistance@liberal.ca to get your email address back on the list.

Recently, MP Seamus O’Regan paid a Zoom visit to the Senior Liberals’ Commission in a virtual Fireside Chat which was very well-attended. MP O’Regan was a charming and informative guest. After his talk, he took many questions from those in attendance and answered them all with grace and sincerity as well as in-depth information. More webinars are planned.

With the challenges of the Covid pandemic now behind us we still utilize the ease and practicality of virtual events and meetings. We continue to engage with fellow older Canadians with a view to their representation when advocating for policy that enables and sustains our way of living. During the previous Convention in Ottawa in May, 2023 we demonstrated how we as a Commission work hard for fellow senior citizens with the acceptance of our resolutions addressing the demand for support of Aging in Place.

We need more volunteers. We need Senior Registered Liberal Representatives in each Electoral District Association (Riding) in all regions of British Columbia. Senior Liberals Commission Representatives are voting members of EDA Executive Boards and actively participate in election preparations.

If you would like to become more involved, please click on About Us for more information.

We hope that you will be inspired to join us.
